Implant Training
brought to you by Ontario Dental Implants. This
section is made to help you learn how to do dental
implant procedures with dental implant training
and full explanation of a dental implant.
Why Dental implants are used
is to replace a missing roots and/or support new
teeth, which may be fixed to the implant or implants. Or you may be able to take them out
yourself as well.
If your
not in good health, Implants are not for you. You need
to have healthy gums and a good mass of bone in your jaw to support the
dental implant or implants. If you get dental implants
you will need to visit your dentists or dental
specialist several times and it takes excellent care
and maintenance of your implants.
Bone
can shrink if teeth are no longer there, but with
dental implants the bone is less likely to shrink
because the implant sticks to the bone in the
jaw. And if you have been missing teeth for some
time the bone may have already shrunk. But a
bone graft can placed in to support the implant.
A bone graft just adds bone where it shrunk.
This is
what happens when implants are done:
Step 1
Your dentist, oral surgeon or periodontist will put a small metal post into your jawbone.
Step 2
Over time, the post will bond with the bone around it.
Step 3
The post (or implant) will act like an anchor to hold one or more false teeth in place.
False teeth are attached to the implant or implants to
look like and act like real teeth. But know that
dental implants are not as strong as real teeth.
In fact you need brush and floss very carefully with
implants. Use a long bristled tip toothbrush for
best results in cleaning the behind the implant.
At least once a day floss very carefully especially
around the gum line.
